What does a Pueblan Milksnake looks like?


The Pueblan Milk Snakes is a small species growing up to a maximum of 3ft. Although these are small snakes, they make up for this in colour, they are banded with black, white or cream and red body, the head is black, often with a white or cream snout. They make an ideal starter snake and have an excellent temperament. They should definitely be added to any collection, as they are stunning in colour!

You can use sand, aspen shavings, news paper "not a big fan of it but it works", indoor out door carpet, paper towls etc. Never use ceder or pine bedding it is deadly to reptiles.The snake will burrow a lot, whether this is in the substrate or newspaper.

Day temperature should be gradient from 78 to 90 degrees F while you should maintain night temperature at a range between 70-75 degrees F. Pueblans don't bask so using light to provide heat is inappropriate. Place a heat mat under 1/3rd of the vivarium with a 40 watt bulb, this should be connected to a Thermostat to control the temperature. Humidity should be in the range of 50%, the best method is to place a humidity box on the cool end.

Geograpical Location of Pueblan Milksnake

Pueblan Milksnakes can be found in Southern Puebla westward to eastern Morelos and south to northern Oaxaca, Mexico. They are at home in arid environments and can be found at elevations from 4935-5444.

Breeding Pueblan Milk snakes

Pueblan Milk snakes are mature at 2 years. Their brumation has to be 50-55 F and they breed November 1st to March 1st. Sperm can be stored for up to a year. You should feed gravid females and post-egg-laying females smaller food items. Within 3 days of egg laying put male back in for second clutch. Their breeding age is from 2 to 10 years. And when breeding to laying eggs its 26 to 49 days. The size of their clutch is 4 to 16 with an average of 9. The eggs incubation period is 58 to 76 days and they must be kept at 82-85 degrees F (78 to 88 degrees is acceptable).

Pueblan Milk snake nutritional requirements

Pueblan Milksnakes are carnivorous which means their meat eaters. They will eat mice, birds, lizards, hamsters, rats and other snakes. Their is a saying "don't house with other snakes you will be a snake short". You don't have to give it any supplements. With hatchlings(after first she): pinky mouse (show small lump), once/week adult: male: one meal/week (may not eat during mating season). For female: 2 times per week for breeders, but smaller prey items some don’t eat when gravid, but still offer prey frequentlystop feeding two weeks brumation.

They eat mice, hamsters and rats, lizards and snakes. Lay three to four clutches of eggs a season. They make a good beginner snake for people. They don't require special care, housing, lighting, and heating equipment.
